John provides counseling and representation to corporate, academic, and individual clients. The principle focus of his practice is representing clients before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) including drafting patent applications, filing those applications and advocating for associated patent grants. John also provides representation for the licensing, sale or purchase of intellectual property assets, renders patent opinions, and assists clients in the pursuit of patent protection in other counties. Further, he counsels clients on trademark matters including handling applications for federal trademark registration.
John Edel has dedicated his legal career to patents and intellectual property since beginning as a USPTO Patent Examiner in 2006 in a Technology Center that handles chemical and mechanical inventions. Since that time John has also served clients as a patent attorney in both a small firm environment and as an attorney for one of the largest law firms in Louisiana.
John has handled applications in a variety of technical areas including: chemical, mechanical, pharmaceutical, medical devices, industrial equipment, consumer electronics, pollution control and environmental apparatus. Before becoming an attorney, John was a chemical engineer handling production operations for various chemical processing units at Monsanto’s Luling, La. chemical plant.
